Want That House? Bake a Batch of Cookies

We all know that competition among would-be home buyers is fierce these days and many are going the extra mile to garner attention and to get their offer to stand out. It’s not uncommon for a buyer to write a personal letter, introducing their family and going on (often at great length) on just why they would be the perfect family to purchase the home. This often includes flattery – “We just love the 50’s wallpaper in the master bedroom – just what we always wanted!”

Now, according to Bloomberg News would-be buyers are getting more creative including YouTube videos and presenting the seller – and five or six of their neighbors – with freshly baked cookies.

Does the strategy work? Well, maybe – depending on the section of the country. One real estate company estimates that in the first half of 2015 letter-writers were 14 percent more likely to have their offer accepted.

Of course, as the strategy catches on, more creativity will be needed. Sky-writing, anyone?
