From 2023 to 2024 metro areas in the U.S. saw an increase of 3.2 million residents or 1.1%. According to analysts, international migration is the prime driving force although the “return to office” policy of many corporations after years of remote work is also a factor.
These ten metro areas saw the biggest increases in population for July 1, 2023 to July 1, 2024:

- Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX
- Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, FL
- Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV
- Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler, AZ
- Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, FL
- Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, GA
- Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, IL-IN
- Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA
