Housing bill becomes law

Despite President Trump’s refusal to sign the 21st Century Road to Housing Act, the bill became law on July 10, 2026. While the purpose of the bill – 45 provisions – is to ignite more home construction and cut red tape, analysts believe it could take years to see a significant increase in production and even longer to improve affordability. The legislation also increases constraints to institutional investors in the housing market.

A key component is linking community development blocks grants to local housing, which will let the federal government more directly affect housing at the state and local level.
