While the housing market remains fairly stagnant, the fact is, Americans are buying and selling – and moving! Relative to their population sizes, South Carolina, Idaho, and North Carolina saw the most population growth in 2025. Conversely, New York, Hawaii, Alaska, and California saw the biggest decreases, with more folks moving out than in. Of course, affordability played a big role in both of these developments.
Meanwhile, the rapid migration to Florida and Texas which has been so prevalent over the last decade slowed dramatically in 2025.
